Sardinia, the seabed of Capo Caccia is among the most beautiful in the world for its variety of fauna and underwater caves.
More and more people are taking up scuba diving. This choice is driven by the desire to experience nature—and the sea in particular—in a unique way, discovering fascinating underwater panoramas.
After the boom of the 1980s and 1990s, scuba diving experienced a period of normalization at the beginning of the third millennium, but is now making a strong comeback because it allows you to experience unique emotions, literally immersed in nature, underwater, where life flows slowly and amidst muffled noises.
It is a true natural medicine for countering the anxiety, stress, insecurities, and frenetic pace of daily life that lead us to pursue who knows what goals and lose sight of the real needs of the body and mind.
Recreational diving, always managed according to rigorous and precise international standards, is also a wonderful opportunity to test your physical and psychological abilities, overcome your limits, and have a valid and exciting reason to stay in control and fit.
How, when, and why start?
The recommended age for starting scuba diving is 10-12 years old (with dedicated certifications), depending on physical development and health, which should be examined by a pediatrician (for minors) and a sports doctor. From 15-16 years old, certifications for adults and related specialties apply.
Discovery Scuba Diving (DSD) is a first dive for beginners that takes place in controlled, shallow waters under the guidance of a qualified instructor: it is generally the recommended step for approaching scuba diving and understanding whether it can truly become a new passion.
Certifications are valid internationally and can therefore be used at any diving center worldwide. To start a course, simply contact a diving center with a diving school or a diving association authorized to offer courses: the winter period is ideal for approaching the lessons and deepening the theoretical part (nothing demanding, but in fact a lot of fun), to then conclude the practical part in the pool – or even better in the sea.
Ad hoc Equipment
Generally, every diving school provides the materials for the course and all the necessary equipment. But it won’t take long for diving to become an irrepressible passion… and then you can begin to carefully choose your first pieces of personal equipment, perhaps with the advice of your instructor or the diving center.
It’s advisable to start gradually, perhaps starting with the most “personal” equipment such as mask, fins, regulators, and wetsuit. Together with the instructor or the experts at the
diving center, it will also be exciting to discover how to best rinse and store your equipment, so as to keep it at maximum efficiency and safety for as long as possible.
In short… all the ingredients for a new, exciting, and relaxing adventure are there: all that’s left to do is take the first step and explore scuba diving and the riches of the sea.
