Sardinia, an Island for all seasons. Bitas 2013, active tourism is served.

Bitas 2013

The Active tourism is the “flagship” of touristic offer in Sardinia, a region that proposes many opportunities to live a period of fun and relax in outdoor activities and wonderful natural environments.
The appointment for the Sardinian touristic industry, both national and international, is at Bosa (Province of Oristano) from 12 to 17th march, where is planned the 4th edition of BITAS, International Active Tourism  Fair in Sardinia, organized by Agenzia Sardegna Promozione under the patronage of ENIT, the Italian National Agency for Tourism, which acknowledged “the high tourist value of the event.”
Touristic, but also economic, we might add. Because tourism is a precious sector for the development of our beautiful Island and the national economy in general. The aim of the event is to promote and boost active tourism as one of the major events backing the purpose of developing an “all year long tourism season” in Sardinia. So tourists have the opportunity to have fun with scuba diving, snorkeling tour, kayaking, hiking, Nordic walking, horse riding, sailing and many other outdoor activities.
In active tourism, many touristic companies decided to study and develop new ideas and projects. For example the Technological Multisport Week (TMW), multisport week supported by advanced technologies and developed together Area 3 – A Human Motion Lab and Aqvatech Engineering, companies both operating in the Science and Technology Park of “Porto Conte Ricerche”, at Capo Caccia-Alghero.
BITAS is a strategic fair for the next tourist season and the hope is that the participation of tourism companies is a further incentive to improve infrastructures and networks for a sector that for Sardinia is simply essential.

Mens sana in corpore sano. “Techno-Tourism”: the new frontier of tourism in Sardinia is called TMW

18 Dicembre 2012 | By

Research and technology applied to tourism. It starts from Alghero, in Sardinia, the innovative project TMW, acronym for Technological Multisport Week, experience in active tourism supported by advanced technologies.
The project was born from the cooperation between the sardinian society ArchiMete Ltd., headquartered in Tramariglio (Alghero – Capo Caccia) and specialized in active tourism and, Area 3 – A Human Motion Lab and Aqvatech Engineering, companies both operating in the Science and Technology Park of “Porto Conte Ricerche”, within the wonderful natural environment of Capo Caccia.
Tourism has potential for sustaining development of Sardinia and Italy, but is going through a difficult time due to the international economic crisis. That’s why ArchiMete, Area 3 and Aqvatech studied and launched TMW, multisport original and innovative week. The idea is to link the practice of sports to a unique environment: the area of Alghero, the land Park of Porto Conte and the Marine Protected Area of Capo Caccia and Isola Piana. Everything with the support of science, technology and training of the companies located in the prestigious Science and Technology Park of Porto Conte Ricerche.
In this way tourists have the opportunity to live environment and nature through the practice of activities such as diving, snorkeling, trekking, kayaking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

The added value of TMW is the possibility to make a check-up of physical qualities (such as strength, balance, body composition, etc..) during functional assessment performed by Area 3. The same model used by the athletes of Dinamo-Bank of Sardinia Sassari, team that (altro…)

Green and responsible is better. ArchiMete is official supporter of WTM World Responsible Tourism Day

22 Settembre 2012 | By

Many small individual actions to reach a great goal: protect the environment and have a better world to live. And…, of course, where to spend unique holidays!
It is the spirit of our company, that operates in the hearth of north-west Sardinia, in the Regional Natural park of Porto Conte and in the Marine protected area of Capo Caccia-isola Piana.
For us the “green philosophy” it’s a must. And we believe in it strongly.
That’s why in this first year we chose to participate at the World Travel Market in London (5-8 november), and we joined the WTM World Responsible Tourism Day 2012, planned on 7th november.

WTM WRTD has four realistic objectives for this day of action and with support from the UNWTO wants the industry to work together to:

Responsible tourism … at work. The challenge is open at the World Travel Market 2012 in London

12 Agosto 2012 | By

The labour policies in Sardinia must pass by a well-coordinated revival of tourism. In whatever form it is developed (of course, better if sustainable and responsible): active, hotels, campings, luxury, linked to the sea, golf and many other activities.
But if the goal is to create prosperity for a region unique in the world for nature, culture, traditions, food and wine, the whole system needs to change pace quickly.
If it is true -as unfortunately confirms recent statistics compiled by the study centers of many professional associations- that in Italy one day per week is burned by bureaucracy, honor to italians entrepreneurs that, despite the difficulties, are able to obtain excellent results.

The entrepreneurial class continues to invest in productive sectors that are more interesting. And among these, in Sardinia, there is of course tourism. For this reason, from 5 to 8 November  2012, ArchiMete staff will be in London, among the exhibitors at World Travel Market – WTM 2012 – International Fair of Tourism, which is one of the most important appointments for the operators tourism industry worldwide. The WTM 2012 comes five months after the workshop in Spanish buyers and tour operators in Sardinia promoted in Madrid and that allowed us to test the great interest that the Western European market has for Sardinia.

We have chosen to participate at WTM 2012 in London in the awareness to represent a part of one of the many tourist potential of this region. We think strongly that this effort can become powerful driving force for the creation of new jobs, yet highly qualified.

The necropolis of Anghelu Ruju

Prenuragic area of extraordinary importance and the largest in Sardinia. It is located nearby I Piani, along the county road 42, not far from the airport of Alghero-Fertilia. It was discovered by chance in 1903, during the excavations for the building of a farmhouse. The finding of some human bones encouraged further excavations, until crockery, jewels and several hypogean graves were discovered. Over the years, a total of 38 Domus de Janas (Home of the Fairies) were discovered, along with underground graves dating back to three different historic periods: the civilization of Ozieri (3500 B.C.), of the bell-shaped vase (2000-1900 B.C.), and of Bonnanaro (1800 B.C.).

Punta Giglio

4 Febbraio 2012 | By

This is the side of the cape at the end of the western side of Porto Conte. The excursion, which lasts around 3 hours, marks a sort of ring, allowing you to admire the natural wonders of this part of the Regional Natural Park of Porto Conte, along with the breathtaking landscapes which contrast sharply with the dark blue of the Sardinian sea. During the walk, you will come across the ruins of platforms, used for the cannons of the antiaircraft artillery, along with bunkers and barracks used during the Second World War. The area is also suitable for biking and riding excursions, and it is located right on top of  another important place for excursions; this time underwater: the Grotta dei Cervi (the Cave of Deer).

Grotta dei Cervi (the Cave of Deer)

28 Gennaio 2012 | By

It is one of the most important caves in Sardinia and in the entire Mediterranean area, both from a naturalistic and scientific point of view. Inside, there is a rich fossil deposit made up of bones of Sardinian deer, belonging to the Megaloceros cazioti algarensis species, which lived in this area when the lands were above sea level, between 120,000 and 75,000  years ago.

The underwater route, which is accessible to most divers, starts inside the cliff of Punta Giglio, at the eastern entrance of the Porto Conte bay.

Departure: the cave is 5 minutes away from the ArchiMete tourist centre by rubber boat.

Route: the cave is on three levels and the exploration is quite easy and suitable to most divers.

Depth: maximum 22 metres, the cave entrance is at 8 metres depth.

To see: just point your flashlight towards the walls, and you can admire calcite arabesques and stalactites, which create the natural frame of a small lake overlooking the inside of an air chamber inside the cliff. The air is breathable thanks to some cracks in the rocks which allow air in from outside. On the lake’s shore, divers can safely leave BCDs, flippers and weights behind, obviously being careful to not damage stalactites and arabesque rocks. Once you are free of your equipment, after a few metres, you will enter a niche which contains a fossil deposit consisting of the bones of Sardinian deer:  the long bones, skulls, lower jaws and imposing antlers of these animals, which widely populated the entire area of Porto Conte tens of thousands of years ago, are perfectly preserved. Remember that during that period, the entire area was above sea level. Paleontologists presume that the deer were probably looking for shelter from bad weather inside the cave, but that maybe, due to the darkness or the crowding of many animals, fell into a narrow and deep part of the cave, which turned into a death trap.

Length of the exploration: 1 hour

Price includes: scuba tank and ballast, transfer by rubber boat, diving and naturalistic guide inside the cave, washing and storage of the equipment.

Further information: the tourist centre ArchiMete offers the possibility to buy cheap diving packages, which allow one to experience the wonders of the Protected Marine Area of Capo Caccia-Isola Piana. The offer can be combined with trekking and snorkeling routes, in addition to naturalistic activities proposed by ArchiMete. See also the section “Discover our offers” on the homepage of the website.

The Nuraghe of Palmavera

28 Gennaio 2012 | By

The Palmavera nuraghe

Along the coastal road 127 Bis which connects Alghero to Capo Caccia, three and a half kilometres after Fertilia (at kilometre 32), we find the magnificent Nuragic complex of Palmavera. The main keep dates back to the Fifteenth-Fourteenth century B.C., and can be still visited in all its parts; including the large central room with a tholos cupola. Considered the structure of the complex, which was built at the foot of the Doglia Mountain, archaeologists presume that it was surrounded by cabins and refuges. The second cycle of life of the Nuraghe, started after the first half of the Ninth century B.C., when a second keep was added and the first one was covered with blocks of sandstone, a very common material in this area.
The visit is organized between the two towers, and it is also possible to visit the meeting cabin, where there are still a stone bench, a bath and the throne of the tribal chief. During the excavations, archaeologists found several artifacts, which today are mainly exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum “Sanna” in Sassari (at 64, via Roma; Phone nr.  0038.079.272203 – www.museosannasassari.it).
